The Early Stages Program bridges the gap between New York City's world class performing arts community and its under served public school children. Each year, Early Stages reaches over 15,000 students (K-12th) from the city's racially, ethnically and economically diverse public school population. Our Live Theater Program brings students and their families to outstanding performances in theater, dance, music and circus. And our Responsive Writing and Storytelling programs place artists in schools for residencies involving the whole school community.
Today, Early Stages stands out for the breadth and variety of its school and arts partners, the depth of its in-school programs, and the thread of storytelling that runs throughout. Students are introduced to live performance through the most spectacular means - actually going to a theater and being part of the magic. They are then encouraged to develop their responses and find stories within themselves that relate to the works on view.
