How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Dear Little Dollies was founded by Dorothy and Louis Camilleri and currently operated by Louis and several of his children. Dorothy was an avid doll person since childhood. When Louis retired from his job as a chemist, the couple decided that Dear Little Dollies would be an ideal retirement business, combining their respective interests in doll collecting and business, and also involving their children for a family experience.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We love dolls, doll makers, doll lovers and doll collectors! We have an unbeatable selection of some of the most beautiful dolls in the world displayed in an attractive shop which is easily accessible from points east and west. We offer excellent and friendly customer service as well as a great layaway policy. Having personally known many of our doll makers for many years, we are very knowledgeable about the dolls they create. Often we can obtain hard to find collectible dolls or exclusives from them.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one beautiful location and have been there for around 20 years. We currently are redesigning our web site and will be launching soon.
Provide detailed directions to your location
From New York City's Pennsylvania Station take the Long Island Railroad Babylon Branch to Bellmore. The Bellmore station is on Petit Avenue. Walk east on Petit to cross street Bedford Avenue and turn left on Bedford. You will be walking north on Bedford, on the left side of the street, at that point. Proceed north for several short blocks until you pass Matteo's Restaurant on the left and can see the marquee of the Bellmore Playhouse movie theater on your right. We are the next store front to you left after Matteo's. If driving, best take Southern State Parkway from the east or west and get off at Wantagh State Parkway/Jones Beach State Park exit going South. Stay on Wantagh State Pkwy. until the first exit, W5W (don't miss it unless you want to go to the beach), which will put you on Sunrise (also called Veteran's Memorial) Highway. Take Sunrise west for three short lights to the corner of Bedford and Sunrise (the back of a big King Kullen supermarket will be to your left) and turn right (go under the LIRR overpass) on to Bedford. You will be heading north on Bedford at that point. Go north through two quick lights. The second light is at the corner of Bedford and Grand and you will see the Mediterranean Diner (excellent!) to your left. Keep going north on Bedford for a few more blocks and you will see Dear Little Dollies (right after Matteo's) to your left and the Playhouse movie theater marquee to your right.
